Why Learning Isn’t EVERYTHING!

“I’ve read 100 books on the subject!” 🗣️

“I have 5 Certifications!” 🗣️

“I have 3 Masters Degrees!” 🗣️

Having expertise in a subject is without a doubt important. Like we wouldn’t want toddlers performing open heart surgery or dogs flying helicopters, right?! 🤣

But what I’m getting at is just because someone learns a lot doesn’t automatically mean they know more. 😲

📌 You can read hundreds of books on a subject, yet never use what you read.

📌 You can earn a certification, yet not remember the very information which got you certified in the first place.

📌 You can go to college and receive a degree, yet never use the skills you developed.

Let me ask you a question: for all the school tests you ever took, how much information from the tests do you remember? 🤔

80%? 50%? Nothing?! You’re not alone! 😅

It’s not about how much you know; it’s about how much you use. It’s not about the amount of information you receive; it’s about what you use with the information you receive. 🙌

It’s the reason why I’ll read the same book twice, why I’ll listen to an online course multiple times, why I’ll re-read notes from seminars I’ve attended. 📚

Because I can assure you: unless you have a photographic memory, you don’t retain every piece of information you learn just from hearing it once. 👍

You don’t lift a few weights at the gym and suddenly are fit for life. You need to keep going back to the gym to maintain the muscles you’ve already built. 🏋️

And the same goes for your mental muscles. You need to keep learning and building on what you’ve already learned. Otherwise, like a muscle, it deteriorates. 🧠

Repetition and application are keys! 🔑

After all, why do you think I keep repeating this same sentence over and over again? 😉

Why We Shouldn’t PLEASE Others!

You’re about to meet a group of potential new friends. You know you really to make a great first impression on each of them. In your overthinking on “how” you’re going to impress them, fear sets in. 😨

“I can’t mess this up! I have to make them like me!” 🗣️

The time comes and it doesn’t go like you planned. You spend most of the time nodding and agreeing with these new people. You meet many people you don’t share any common interests with, yet you keep pretending like you do. 👎

By the end, most of the people you met liked you. But yet, you feel like total crap! 😓

Why do we try so hard to please others?

📌 We’re afraid we won’t be accepted for who we are.

📌 We’re insecure with our own sense of self.

📌 We’re afraid of being disliked and rejected.

📌 We want to feel like we belong and believe changing ourselves will help.

I know it’s difficult. We all want to fit in, to be accepted, to feel loved. These are natural human emotions; who doesn’t want that?! 😊

The problem is people pleasing doesn’t benefit either party long-term. The truth will eventually come out. 👍

🌟 People pleasing is a lose-lose situation. You lie to yourself AND to others. 🌟

If you don’t stand for anyone, you stand for no one. So stand for You, who you are as a person and embrace your own personal worth. If someone doesn’t appreciate it, that’s their problem, not yours. 👍

Because the people who have yet to appreciate your worth eventually will. ❤️ #TranscendLabels

Why You Should Keep LEARNING!

What happens when you stop learning? 🤔
👎 You stop growing mentally.
👎 You settle for where things are (because that’s all you know).
👎 Without repetition, you lose what you learned.
The more I’ve continued to educate myself, the more I’m reminded of the words of Socrates: “I know that I know nothing.” 💬
I’m reminded the more I continue I learn, the more I realize how much I haven’t learned! 😲
🌟 When you think you know all there is to know, think again! 🌟
Are you sure you know everything? I’ll challenge you on that. 😀
Our tendency to overestimate how much we actually know is referred to as the Dunning-Kruger Effect. It’s one of many cognitive biases we as humans are susceptible to which cloud our thinking. 🧠
So how do we continue educating yourself?
👍 Pick up a book and read it!
👍 Learn about a topic you’re NOT interested in, stretch yourself into new territories.
👍 Be aware when you start thinking you “know it all” and remind yourself…
With education comes new perspectives: on yourself, on the world, and on your life. Care to join me? ❤️ #TranscendLabels

Sick…and Upset?!

I wrote this a couple months ago, and I wanted to share it because it really goes to show the power of the meanings we will give to things, even with things that are out of our control. I hope this may help you in reframing the meanings you currently give.

I have been sick with a cold the past 4 days. It first started with a sore throat, and then it transitioned into becoming a fever. And then into a runny nose. And then into coughing. And now it’s a mixture of them all together!

But what has surprised me about being sick this whole time is that it is not what’s bothered me the most. All the physical symptoms had taken a backseat in my focus. Then what was it? Continue reading “Sick…and Upset?!”
