Why It’s IMPORTANT To Empathize!

Do you believe you’re always right? Do you make room to hear other’s perspectives? Are you open to people who disagree with you? πŸ€”

🌟 No one sees the world 100% exactly the same. 🌟

Think about 2 people who attend a music concert. They both experience the exact same concert, hear the exact same music, but yet they both came away with separate opinions. ↔️

PERSON 1: “That concert was AMAZING!” πŸ˜„

PERSON 2: “That concert was CRAP!” 🀬

How does that happen? Who was right?! πŸ€”

A lot of opinions we hold are just that…opinions. We feel certain ways towards certain things. It’s not to say either person is right or wrong, but it’s a friendly reminder we each have different reasons for why we carry our opinions. πŸ™Œ

PERSON 1: “They’re my favorite band, and they performed just as AMAZING as I hoped!” πŸ˜„

PERSON 2: “I had a feeling this band was CRAP! My friend even told me not to come!” 🀬

Do you see now some of the reasons why they had different opinions? πŸ‘

That’s why it’s important we develop the skills of empathy:

πŸ“Œ So we can step into other people’s shoes.

πŸ“Œ So we can be open to the possibility of a new perspective to embrace.

πŸ“Œ So it can challenge how we perceive a certain situation.

πŸ“Œ So we remind ourselves we all have reasons for why people do what they do.

How We Should CHOOSE Our Role Models!

Who are some of your role models? Are there any specific celebrities you look up to? Why do you look up to them?Β πŸ€”

As a child, I had many celebrities I idolized. It wasn’t because they were the ideal people to choose as role models. I admired them for their looks, their talents, the films they were in, the songs they sung, etc. 🎬

I knew very little about them, yet I simultaneously had a desire to be like them…or who I believed they would be if I met them in person.Β πŸ‘€

🌟 No one is perfect, not even the people we idolize. 🌟

But there may come a time where you hear about the person you use to idolize, hear about something they did, and it changes your entire perspective on them. You wonder why you idolized them in the first place. You’re left feeling disappointed. 😨

It’s important we remember that even the people we consider “gurus” are nevertheless human beings, one capable of flaws and mistakes, ones who may not always live up to our expectations.

🌟 When we place anyone on a Pedestal of Perfection, we’re always going to be disappointed. 🌟

This goes for anyone. Even me! I’m not perfect, and I will never claim to be. I simply share what serves me and what I believe will greatly serve others. I can definitely be wrong. I have definitely made mistakes.Β πŸ‘

Any “Social Media Influencer” who pretends otherwise is being dishonest. They’re also human beings too, but they present you with an unrealistic goal of perfection you can never reach. Is that a role model you really want to have?Β πŸ‘Ž

So how should we find our role models?

πŸ“Β Find individuals who challenge us, not just reaffirm what we already believe.

πŸ“Β Find individuals who continue to grow themselves as people, ones who also continue to better themselves each daym

πŸ“Β Find individuals you can appreciate more for what’s on the inside (intellect, heart) than the outside (looks, fame).

What is a Life Worth LIVING? (PERSONAL)

Written April 15, 2019

MEMORIES ARE FOREVER…❀️

This morning I packed my suitcase as I depart back to Chicago today. It’s been almost 2 weeks I’ve been in the UK, traveling from Scotland all the way to London. To say the least, it’s been a beautiful ride! 🎒

I placed everything back in my suitcase, everything back to where it was on Day 1 when I first packed them. Everything was all back in its place…yet it also wasn’t.Β πŸ‘

Why? Because I’m not the same person I was when I got here on Day 1. I’ve shifted. Grown. Evolved in the littlest of details. And I will never be the same person again for as long as I live…πŸ‘€

Have you ever experienced a moment in your life where your emotions hit you so hard but it was only after the moment had already passed?Β πŸ€”

As I packed my suitcase, the realization hit me I was actually leaving the UK, that 2 weeks had gone by so fast. So this morning I decided to take a moment to sit on my bed and just close my eyes…πŸ‘€

🌟 Take time to remind yourself how far you’ve come. 🌟

I let my thoughts wander throughout the past 2 weeks, and I quickly became overwhelmed with tears. As I wrapped my arms around myself, the tears turned into streams. My mouth slowly gaped open. My head tilted upward to the heavens. And for the moment, my whole heart laid bare. 😭

The places…the people…the moments…the emotions…most of all the experiences. In my mind, they all became compiled into One, sealing into my conscience for the rest of my life. I take this all with me now as I head home, and I’ll take it with me wherever I go. ❀️

What is a life worth living?

πŸ‘Β It’s one you’ve created for yourself, one you’ve decided on your own terms.

πŸ‘Β It’s one which lights up your heart wherever you are, wherever you go, one you can say you’re grateful to be living.

πŸ‘Β It’s one where you can peacefully say at the end of every day: “If I died tomorrow, I’ve lived a full life to completely embrace it.”

This is the life I’m choosing to live, one where the heart keeps filling and the tears keep coming. So until we meet again UK, I love you! ❀️ #EudaimonicLife

How We Should HANDLE Problems!

What if every problem was a gift? 🎁

Think about it:

🌟 Problems stem from the person who says there is a problem. 🌟

But what is a problem to one person may in fact not be to another:

πŸ“Œ You feel too cold in a room, but another person says the room temperature is just fine.

πŸ“Œ You’re driving and worried about being somewhere late, but your friend assures you will be there plenty early.

πŸ“Œ A person is blasting music you hate, but the other person says you just need to just loosen up.

Ask yourself:

πŸ‘ What does this problem say about me? How am I feeling? What is the story I’m telling myself that is making this problem?

πŸ‘ What are the potential solutions to this problem? How would solving this problem fast make me feel?

πŸ‘ Is this problem really worth lingering over? Is it really worth sacrificing my internal happiness for this problem?

We ALL deal with problems. They’re not exclusive to a select few. πŸ‘₯

Most problems are not even that important! πŸ‘

We’ll create problems that aren’t there. We’ll magnify problems and make them bigger than they need to be. We’ll make them seem more life-or-death in our minds than they actually are

🌟 Focus far less on the problem and far more on the solutions. 🌟

I’m not saying having a problem is “bad”. I’m saying let’s change our relationship with problems. Problems will always happen, but it’s how we work work with them, these hindrances, that will make all the difference. 😊 #TranscendLabels
